The Internet creates fantastic new opportunities for business,
cultural development and personal communications across
Europe. But it also threatens the power and control of
some traditional multinational businesses and government
institutions. They have reacted by asking for new laws
that would protect their interests at the expense of Europe's
Internet users. These new rules would threaten the future
of the Internet in Europe, but a majority of our politicians
still seem to be listening to them
American
Internet users have already mobilised to prevent this
from happening in the United States. Now we need to do
the same thing here to make sure special interests and
misguided politicians don't kill the web in Europe.
Red Alert
The
digital copyright threat : The most dangerous new
proposed law is being pushed in Brussels by powerful multinational
film, music and software companies. They are telling EU
politicians that the Internet will turn us all into thieves,
and want sweeping new laws that extend their rights on
the Internet. If succeeds, they will destroy
the Web as we know it. But they didn't succeed in America,
and we can still stop them in Europe . But we have to
act now.
Threats
to privacy : A wide range of businesses,
governments, and law-enforcement agencies want to watch
what we do on the internet. We will lose our rights to
privacy if we don't defend them. |
